About The Islamic Society of Tallahassee

Islamic Society of Tallahassee Inc. is a 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing and operating a masjid geographically convenient to the growing Muslim communities in the suburban areas of Northeast, East, and Southeast Tallahassee.

IST began as an idea by several members of the Muslim community to purchase an old church that was for sale in Northeast Tallahassee. Although sufficient funds were donated, the sale ultimately fell through because a deed restriction on the property allowed the original owner to match offers and buy the property when it was listed for sale. By the grace of Allah, a more conveniently located undeveloped property was identified shortly thereafter. Through the generosity of a single donor, the land was purchased and donated to the organization. IST is currently going through the permitting stages of the property development process.

Since February of 2024, shortly before Ramadan, IST has been operating Masjid Al-Noor at its temporary location at 7117 Beech Ridge Trail, which has been made available to IST for this purpose by the generosity of another donor. At this time, Jumu’a prayers as well as Fajr and Isha jama’ah prayers are regularly conducted. Additionally, taraweeh prayers have been conducted every Ramadan with a visiting Hafidh performing khatam Al Quran.

The Board of Directors of IST is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the organization and its masjid. The Board of Trustees of IST is responsible for approving or vetoing major decisions by the Board of Directors and resolving any disputes within the organization. IST is a membership organization and members are responsible for electing individuals to the Board of Directors and voting on any other matters referred to the membership by the Board of Directors or the Board of Trustees.
